The Youth and Senior Citizens

Writing a poem in the Villanelle poetry form, at least for me, was a brain exercise. Yet, I need a brain workout today!
Mindlovemiserymenagerie posted instructions on how to write a Villanelle.
A Villanelle is a nineteen-line poem consisting of a very specific rhyming scheme: aba aba aba aba aba abaa.
The first and the third lines in the first stanza are repeated in alternating order throughout the poem, and appear together in the last couplet (last two lines). You can read a great example on their post by clicking here.

My humble attempt can be read below.
I was hoping to express how those of us who are considered to be SEPTUAGENARIAN OR OLDER really feel inside our souls.

The youth will never engage
That our souls will never get old
Upon arriving at old age

Inside — Seniors feel caged
The aged will uphold
The youth will never engage

We old citizens feel as if onstage
Not at all controlled
Upon arriving at old age

We imagine; deem not changed
We can dance and feel quite bold
The youth will never engage

Our thinking never disengaged
We are as if thirty-three years yet untold
Upon arriving at old age

The truth of the soul will never assuage
To one who hasn't reached what fate molds
The youth will never engage
Upon arriving at old age

So APROPOS and dVerse

I posted this some time ago on an OPEN LINK but it is so apropos even more so today, I dare post it again! If you think you saw it previously in the past, you did!

The time is now; that Grand Plan
Prep, don’t forget stock a drink
Juice, maybe freshly squeezed, — please!
Make sure your plan is at hand.

A rainstorm of fire will form
Wishing life — under the sea.
The dead, we will all envy.
God deliver us, our plea!

Attach to God or detached?
Winds roll us as tumbleweeds.
Where O’where rosary beads?
Never late, long as we breathe.

Tongue-tied fear viewing sunsets!
Green flashes for all to see.
When it’s over, sun to rise.
A world becomes very wise.

Now to know the Master’s sign.
Every knee bends at His name.
The world; a canvas so blank
We have God’s mercy to thank.

dVerse made me do it!

“Jesus saith to him: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. (John 14:6)

Now for the Quadrille . . . . counting 1 -2- 3 —-44 words

Sorry folks, the word “way” made me post today!
It’s all about love, you see, love is always the way!
The way to peace is through Love; It’s in the will!
Stop! Whatever, please don’t take another pill!
Choose happiness; wish someone Happy Birthday!

Ah! Another Challenge, poetry

You Know what they say about being eighty-one!

Paint Chip Poetry https://anotherfearlessyear.net/2020/09/11/paint-chip-poetry-prompt-37/

When I’m OLDER than eighty.
It may be grass will appear
greener, a verdant green — lush
As Garden of Paradise.

Time to relax would be nice!
Taste Wild Huckleberry wine,
Near soft glow of candlelight
I wait, waiting —still, I wait!

My skin will take on an aged
Antique Brass shade — no longer
A peachy tone, when eighty!
Sooner than later —eight one!

Years continue to fly by
As cumulonimbus clouds
Watching to show their tuff stuff.
Sooner than later or die!

Before that dreaded birthday
I’ll visit that Spice Market
If I wait another day
Sooner than later —eighty one

You know what they say about
Being eighty-one —
They say you’re as good as done!

Once upon a time

The Challenge create a poem from paint chips!

Paint Chips for poetry

Once upon a time, time was unknown.
Father God created from His Throne!
God must love the purple-colored tones!

From the kingly royal purple robes
Jacaranda trees over the globe.
Science of ultraviolet probes

The deep purple of the blackberry
The song of the purple canary
Color purple quite legendary.

Once upon a time, obedience was known!

Remember this!

Astronomical or Celestial this poem is beyond the universe inspired by SoCS.

Waiting for a reason, not that I needed one, to post this beautiful poem by Mary Dixon Thayer.  Readers here you may remember it from happier times within the Church.

DressedInBlue

Lovely Lady dressed in blue ——-
Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little boy,
Tell me what to say!

Did you lift Him up, sometimes,
Gently on your knee?
Did you sing to Him the way
Mother does to me?

Did you hold His hand at night?
Did you ever try
Telling stories of the world?
O! And did He cry?

Do you really think He cares
If I tell Him things ——-
Little things that happen? And
Do the Angels’ wings

Make a noise? And can He hear
Me if I speak low?
Does He understand me now?
Tell me ——-for you know.

Lovely Lady dressed in blue ——-
Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little boy,
And you know the way.

Purest of the Pure

Finest IS as finest WAS
As Truth IS still true today
Everything changes except Truth
The same, yesterday, today and tomorrow.
What is Truth? You might say
Truth is the finest of the finest
The highest of the high
Purest of the pure!
Why choose anything less
If truth changes — it never was
Your finest hour begins with truth
A love for truth the finest gift
The truth will set you free!

FOWC

poetry, Word Prompts

Just don’t SPILL IT… hard to clean up!

When I saw the Word of Day from FOWC; if you could have read my mind, it was so telling, “no not today.” What can I say about oil?   However, my guardian angel put an idea about OIL, I couldn’t resist.  There are many things to say about oil such as…

Has anyone ever noticed how “oil” is much like Truth, it always comes to the top?

God is good, He gives us little reminders of what is right, the opposite of RIGHT are words from the dictionary; Antonyms:
wrong, wrongfulness, left, two-handed, left-hand(a), leftmost, unsatisfactory, base, near(a), centrist, left-of-center, vicious, incorrect, immoral, larboard, parallel, center, erroneous, leftish, left-handed, liberal, nigh(a), condemnable, improper, inaccurate, deplorable, criminal, misguided, inopportune, far left, fallacious, mistaken, false, inside, reprehensible, wrongheaded, inappropriate, leftist, left-wing, oblique, middle-of-the-road, ambidextrous, port, incorrectly, wrongly

Not only does oil always come to the top as does truth; oil is often used for religious ceremonies of anointing the dying or sick, a Sacrament.
Oil is grand lubrication for everything, cooking with olive oil or coconut oil — a few examples. Oil, when you think of all its attributes, is no doubt one of God’s great gifts to humanity. Here below is a poem ~ John Newton.

When descending from the sky
The Bridegroom shall appear;
And the solemn midnight cry,
Shall call professors near:
How the sound our hearts will damp!
How will shame o’erspread each face!
If we only have a lamp,
Without the oil of grace.

Foolish virgins then will wake
And seek for a supply;
But in vain the pains they take
To borrow or to buy:
Then with those they now despise,
Earnestly they’ll wish to share;
But the best, among the wise,
Will have no oil to spare.

Wise are they, and truly blessed,
Who then shall ready be
But despair will seize the rest,
And dreadful misery:
Once, they’ll cry, we scorned to doubt,
Though in lies our trust we put;
Now our lamp of hope is out,
The door of mercy shut.

If they then presume to plead,
Lord open to us now;
We on earth have heard and prayed,
And with thy saints did bow:
He will answer from his throne,
Though you with my people mixed,
Yet to me you ne’er were known,
Depart, your doom is fixed.

O that none who worship here
May hear that word, Depart!
Lord impress a godly fear
On each professor’s heart:
Help us, Lord, to search the camp,
Let us not ourselves beguile;
Trusting to a dying lamp
Without a stock of oil.

Word of the Day Challenge

Check Out the Word of the Day — Today

It is ILLUSTRIOUS!

Illustrious might in a sense, mean famous
Someone glorious and quite grand.
Look in the mirror to see how you stand.
In the eyes of the world, perhaps an eyesore.
In the eyes of God, you are much more.

Don’t envy the life of another; count your blessings instead.

There is this legend a man; who complained to God that his cross was too heavy. As the story goes, the man is now seeing numerous stylized crosses to choose. Some very large, others so tiny, some crude and heavy, other slick and light, splintered, skewed or straight; on and on, he looked to see what cross was perfect for him, for he knew we all had to carry our cross, such is life. He looked here and there for his cross, and found one! Picking up his cross, while looking above to God he said, yes!

God now looking down smiled and said, “well done,” that is the exact one I gave you my child.

So you see, we all have a cross even the illustrious people in the world have one, you only see their splashy outward appearance, not the within.

There was this exalted person, illustrious and known to God, while simple to the world, his name was Padre Pio who died in 1968. Padre Pio’s advice and moto were, and it is a good one, “Pray and don’t worry.”

A Poem composed — Only 74 words

Boats that seem to melt or sink
disappear beyond the vast
horizon. Onward they sail.
—Yonder to and fro they go!
To the eyes it ceases; Gone!
Yet, where? We must confess they
Are still there, somewhere we know!
Is truly Faith surpassing!

The eclipse —horizon as
hidden mysteriously!
Looking back through time we go!

Remember Dear Saint Paul was
Blinded by God in order
To see. Mystical is God
Indeed our Faith surpassing!

My Quadrille for dVerse

dVerse Quadrille with the prompt word EARTH!

Friends/foe don’t agree
especially with me.
Some even say earth is flat
something like a placemat.
Some insist the earth is round
with speech that is profound.
When I get to heaven
I’ll let you know as sure as 1 + 6 are seven!

Musing!
Craving to pen
scribble or compose, yet
troubled, melancholy am I
but why?
Sun steep in the sky — rays falling
God high up — grace dipping;
there I did it!
The end.

Knowing the end of the story

In keeping with the theme of my blog, this challenge does have a religious touch.

My post here is an acceptance of Colleen Chesebro Challenge Tanka Poetry; her challenge is to use the synonyms for the words “Happy and Morose” however as she suggested I took this week challenge a little further by mixing Tanka poetry in between a Haiku or hybrid of Haiku/Senryu. If you know whether it be Haiku or Senryu please comment below; explain why.  Honestly I am not sure.

Numerous synonyms will be underlined.

Illusion the snare
crooning of silly ditties
awash with merry!
Secretly indwells a low
clinging to a chimera.

How cold our world is.
No room at the inn; without
Him— Peace can’t enter.

Truth error can’t mix
the devil will have his day!
Knowing story end
delighted the blessed will be
melancholy will be free!

My post here is an acceptance of Colleen Chesebro Challenge Tanka Poetry; her challenge is to use the synonyms for the words “Inspiration and Plan” choice was “Thought, Vision are Synonyms for Inspiration and the words Picture for Plan.” This writing; is called SHAPE POETRY, a Butterfly Cinquain.

A thought
Never forget
Love of truth: pray to know
Truth is what is — everlasting
Picture!
A world without fabrication
Strong Vision to behold
Heaven on earth
Wonder!

SCARY Haiku

Colleen gave us two very pleasant and sunny words, the synonyms are also enjoyable.

How I wonder did my poem arrive at such a scary warning?  Could it be I wanted to juxtapose the good and the bad?

My post here is an acceptance of Colleen Chesebro Challenge Tanka Poetry; her challenge is to use the synonyms for the words “Fantasy and Merry”  my choice was “Visions and Joyous”  –

Beware of visions
